Medvedev secures new mandate as Russian prime minister

MOSCOW –Dmitry Medvedev secured a fresh term as Russian prime minister on Tuesday, as parliament voted overwhelmingly to retain the longtime ally of President Vladimir Putin in his post.

"I am ready to do everything for the development of our country," said Medvedev, who also served a Kremlin term from 2008 to 2012, ahead of the vote in the State Duma, also attended by Putin.
A total of 374 MPs backed Medvedev's candidacy while 56 voted against.
