Israeli Forced Shutdown of UN Clinic Signals Escalating : UNRWA
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini described the Israeli forces raid on theآ UNRWA-operated healthآ centre asآ “aآ new step in a pattern of deliberate disregard for international lawآ andآ the United Nations.
Lazzarini confirmed on X that the Israeli forces “stormed into an UNRWA health centre in East Jerusalem. This is a United Nations premises.
“Israeli authorities then ordered the centre to close forآ 30 days, depriving Palestinian Refugees of access to primary health care,†he added.
“Meanwhile, water and power supplies to UNRWA facilities - including health and education buildings - are scheduled to be cut in the coming weeks,†Lazzarini said.
“This is a direct result of legislation passed by the Israeli parliament in December, which stepped up existing anti-UNRWA laws adopted in 2024,â€آ Lazzarini added.آ
Theآ recent International Court of Justiceآ (ICJ) ruling restated that the occupation authorities is obliged under international law to facilitate UNRWA’s operations, not hinder or prevent them.
