Controversial medical entrepreneur Prasain arrested

Police on Monday night arrested controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasain from his residence in Bhaktapur. His arrest was made on the instructions of the government, concluding that Prasain could incite violence. Prasain is currently in custody at the Kathmandu District Police Range, Bhadrakali. 
He has been arrested and released several times over the past year due to his aggressive statements. Prasai, who is also a cancer patient, was arrested a year ago after he made controversial statements regarding the alleged investment in Cambodia by the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Since then, he was arrested and released time and again. 
On November 19, 2024, Prasai was arrested by a CIB team from his own house in Bhaktapur, marking his first arrest since starting organisational activities.
 The Kathmandu District Court ordered his release on a bail of Rs 40,000 before being arrested again. 
He was also accused of threatening Nepali businessmen in the name of Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Some of his associates were also arrested in the same case. However, he was released later following the Supreme Court verdict. There were also some other cases against him, including money laundering.
Amidst legal troubles, he continued his campaign and started a movement with the slogan of restoring the monarchy. Accordingly, on March 28, 2025, he became the commander and a demonstration was held in Tinkune in the capital. When the demonstration turned violent, he was arrested again. After fleeing to India following the incident that claimed the lives of two people, he was arrested on April 11, 2025.
