Prime Minister Karki Retains Seven Ministries
Despite the recent expansion of the Cabinet, Sushila Karki has chosen to keep seven important ministries under his own responsibility. According to a notice released by the President's Office, the ministries he will directly manage are Foreign Affairs; Defense; Drinking Water; Women, Children and Senior Citizens; Forest and Environment; Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; and Labour, Employment and Social Security.
New Cabinet Structure After Expansion
Following the expansion, the Cabinet now has ten members, including the Prime Minister. The distribution of ministries is not equal among all members. Two ministers have been given the responsibility of three ministries each. Another minister is in charge of two ministries. The remaining ministers have been assigned one ministry each.
Breakdown of Ministerial Responsibilities
The ministers and their assigned portfolios have been officially announced. Kul Man Ghising will lead the ministries of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Physical Infrastructure and Transport; and Urban Development. Minister Anil Kumar Sinha will handle the ministries of Industry, Commerce and Supplies; Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; and Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. Similarly, Minister Rameshwar Khannal will be responsible for the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.
The other ministers have each been given one ministry. Om Prakash Aryal will lead the Home Ministry. Mahavir Pun will head the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Madan Prasad Pariyar will take charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Jagdish Kharel will lead the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Sudha Gautam will be responsible for the Ministry of Health and Population, and Babulal Gupta will head the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
