A Senior Leader Condemns Hasty Party Unification Talks
A senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhala Nath Khanal, has strongly criticized the ongoing talks about merging his party with others, particularly the CPN (Maoist Centre). He believes that rushing into unification without a proper ideological and political foundation is equivalent to putting the party on its deathbed. Khanal expressed his frustration that these discussions are happening without any formal dialogue or consultation within the party's official committees.
The Danger of Unification Without Foundation
Khanal stated that the current push for unity, led by party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal and Maoist chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, lacks a clear basis in ideology, policy, or principle. He argued that merging parties under these circumstances is impossible and untimely. He fears that such a move would destroy the party that was created through a rebellion four years ago, rather than strengthening the communist movement.
Internal Party Crisis and Lack of Process
Khanal revealed that he, as a respected leader within the party, has been completely left out of any discussions regarding unification. He emphasized that no formal meetings of the party's leadership committees, such as the Secretariat or the Central Committee, have been held to discuss this critical issue. He finds it shocking and against party discipline that leaders are engaging in private talks about merger without following the party's official rules and procedures.
Call for Focus on Ideology and a United Front
Instead of a rushed merger, Khanal advocates for all leftist forces to first focus on creating a strong ideological foundation. He suggests building a functional unity or a left front based on common ideas and policies for the upcoming elections. He believes this is the correct way to present a strong alternative to the people, rather than top leaders hastily merging parties to solve their personal political crises.
The Issue of Leadership and Morality
Khanal also addressed the serious corruption charges faced by party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal. He confirmed that he has already submitted a written proposal in the Secretariat meeting regarding this issue and plans to present it at the upcoming Central Committee meeting. He firmly believes that politics and morality are deeply connected and cannot be separated, implying that leaders must be held to a high ethical standard.
