The Koshi Barrage has opened 28 of its 56 sluice gates
The Koshi Barrage has opened 28 of its 56 sluice gates following a sharp rise in the water level of the Saptakoshi River due to continuous rainfall over the past few days. According to the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal No. 4 Headquarters, the water flow at the barrage reached 200,430 cusecs (cubic feet per second) by 9:00 PM on Saturday, far exceeding the danger threshold of 150,000 cusecs and triggering a red alert. Despite the alarming water levels, no immediate damage has been reported in the surrounding areas. Authorities remain on high alert as the situation could worsen if heavy rains persist, potentially affecting downstream regions in Nepal and northern India. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay vigilant and follow official updates.
