NAMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2025 Begins in Kathmandu
The "NAMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2025," organized by the Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAMA), has officially started in Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel inaugurated the event at Bhrikutimandap. The expo will run until next Sunday, featuring the launch of 35 new vehicles.
Mobility Sector: A Key Driver of Nepal's Economy
Speaking at the event, NAMA President Ritu Singh Vaidya highlighted the mobility sector's crucial role in Nepal's economic growth and job creation. She shared that this sector directly and indirectly employs over 1.24 million people and contributes 7.13% to the country's GDP. With more than 5.5 million registered vehicles, the industry has also generated employment in sales, repairs, logistics, and infrastructure.
Vaidya emphasized that mobility has improved access to education, healthcare, tourism, and financial services, benefiting thousands indirectly. She also noted that the automobile industry alone accounts for nearly 4.7% of employment in surveyed industries.
Shift Toward Low-Emission Vehicles and New Opportunities
As Nepal moves toward low-emission vehicles, new career opportunities are emerging in technical fields and charging infrastructure development. NAMA, in collaboration with CTEVT, is investing in skilled workforce development to ensure inclusive and future-oriented employment for Nepali youth.
NAMA's Mission and Future Goals
Vaidya stated that NAMA was established to represent the collective voice of vehicle importers and manufacturers, keeping the nation's mobility sector dynamic. "Together, we import and produce vehicles, invest in workshops, expand service networks, and develop skilled manpower," she said. The expo showcases the sector's progress and potential for further growth in Nepal.
