Two Foreign Nationals Arrested with Nearly 8kg of Heroin in Two Days

Kathmandu – The Drug Control Bureau (DCB) has arrested two foreign nationals at Tribhuvan International Airport with approximately 7.8 kilograms of white heroin in separate operations over two days.

First Arrest (Saun 17)

A 35-year-old Indian national, Firoz Ahmad from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended after arriving in Kathmandu via Bangkok from Laos. Authorities recovered 4 kg of heroin from his possession.

Second Arrest (Saun 18)

The next day, the same DCB team arrested another Indian national, 32-year-old Mauleshwar Nanjundamurthy Kuranal Velal from Erode, Tamil Nadu, who also flew in from Laos via Bangkok. A further 3.8 kg of heroin was seized from him.

Legal Action and Investigation

Both suspects have been charged under Nepal’s Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act, 2033, and are undergoing further investigation. The Kathmandu District Court has extended their remand for additional questioning.

These arrests highlight Nepal’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking through its international airport, particularly targeting smuggling routes from Southeast Asia. Authorities continue to monitor suspicious travelers to prevent narcotics from entering the country.
