Lalitpur Metropolitan City Cleans and Restores Historic Hiti

Lalitpur Metropolitan City is currently carrying out cleaning and reconstruction work on the historic Laghkya Hiti, located in Ward 15 of the municipality. This ancient stone water spout, originally built during the Malla period, was previously reconstructed in 1993 (B.S. 2050) through a joint effort by the local community and the municipality.

Ongoing Restoration Efforts

The Hiti, which had fallen into a dilapidated state, is now undergoing repairs, including the removal of debris and resetting of bricks. A major challenge is the accumulation of mud in the lower section due to blocked drainage. Authorities plan to dry and remove the sludge, though the clogged outlets continue to pose difficulties, especially during rainfall, raising concerns about water stagnation.

Historical Significance

The Laghkya Hiti is a vital part of Lalitpur’s cultural heritage, showcasing traditional Newari engineering. The current initiative highlights the city’s commitment to preserving its historical landmarks while addressing functional issues to ensure the structure’s longevity.
