Coalition Government Has Helped Improve Nepal's International Image: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba stated that the current coalition government has brought political stability to Nepal, which has helped enhance the country's image on the international stage. She credited the alliance between CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba for providing much-needed stability.

Political Stability Driving Positive Change

Minister Deuba emphasized that the leadership of respected leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba and KP Sharma Oli has strengthened the nation's political foundation. She noted that this stability has led to positive economic indicators over the past six months and created a more favorable international perception of Nepal.

Challenges of Climate Change Highlighted

Speaking at the inauguration of a garden hotel in Pokhara, Deuba expressed deep concern over the visible impacts of climate change, including the alarming retreat of snow in the Himalayas. She shared her personal distress upon seeing the gray, snowless peaks of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), a sight she had never witnessed before in her lifetime. She warned that future generations might never see snow-covered mountains if current trends continue.

Regional Environmental Threats

The Foreign Minister also pointed to increasing climate-related disasters in neighboring countries, including floods, droughts, and erratic rainfall patterns affecting Nepal. While acknowledging that Nepal is not the primary cause of global climate change, she stressed that the country is bearing a disproportionate burden of its consequences. She called for urgent action to address these environmental challenges.

Need for Sustainable Development

Deuba reiterated that political stability alone is not enough, sustainable development policies must accompany it to ensure long-term prosperity. She affirmed the government's commitment to working with a clear vision to tackle both economic and environmental challenges facing the nation.
