Police Rescue Man Swept Away by Drainage Canal in Mulpani
In a swift rescue operation, Kathmandu police saved a 60-year-old man who had been swept approximately 100 meters through a drainage canal in Baba Chowk, Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-6. The victim, identified as Toran Bahadur Basnet from Baiteshwar-5, Dolakha, fell into the canal around 12:15 PM on Friday.
A specialized police team led by DSP Jayashwar Rimal of Police Circle Bouddha successfully located and extracted Basnet, who miraculously escaped without serious injuries. SP Apil Bohara of Kathmandu District Police confirmed the successful operation and noted that while Basnet was shaken by the ordeal, he required no immediate medical treatment.
Authorities have issued renewed warnings about the dangers of open drainage systems, particularly during monsoon season when water flow increases dramatically. This incident marks the third such rescue in the area this month, prompting calls for improved safety measures around the municipality's drainage infrastructure. Local officials have pledged to review canal coverings and install additional warning signs in high-risk zones to prevent similar accidents.
