Congress MP Yadav opposes lifelong privileges for former officials

Kathmandu, March 16 — Ruling party Nepali Congress Member of Parliament Ram Krishna Yadav has expressed dissatisfaction over the government's preparations to grant lifelong privileges to former high-ranking officials through legislation.

He raised this concern during the Sunday session of the House of Representatives.

He stated that, despite the country’s economic struggles, there have been reports about the government drafting a law to provide lifelong privileges to former officials, which he believes should not happen.

Yadav emphasized that the government should focus on controlling corruption, addressing the youth’s need to seek employment abroad, and ensuring that citizens do not lose their lives due to lack of medical treatment.

He said, “The country is currently in a weakened economic state. In such a situation, while the government is being criticized for failing to effectively deliver development, construction, and public services, news has surfaced that it is drafting a law to grant lifelong benefits to former officials. This is happening while the country’s economic condition is fragile, and corruption continues to go unchecked.”

He further remarked, “The youth are forced to go abroad in search of employment. There are cases where people are losing their lives due to lack of medical care. The people are losing trust in the state. Meanwhile, anti-progressive forces are protesting on the streets against the federal democratic republic. In this situation, granting lifelong benefits to former officials is not in the country’s interest.”

Yadav concluded by stating that, given the country’s economic crisis, granting lifelong privileges to former officials would not be in the best interest of the nation.
