Cabinet decisions: Government forms commission to investigate usurious lending

Kathmandu, March 12 — The government has decided to form a commission to investigate and control the crime of usury. 

On Wednesday, while revealing the decisions from the Cabinet meeting held on Falgun 26 (March 10) at Singha Durbar, government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung announced that a three-member commission will be formed under the chairmanship of Baburam Regmi.

The commission will present a report along with suggestions to curb such crimes. The other members of the commission will be Bharat Bahadur Bohara and Badri Prasad Bhattarai. 

The Cabinet also decided to cancel the "Land Administration Directive, 2058" and "Land Information System Operation Directive, 2071."

Furthermore, it approved the temporary creation of eight authorized-level positions for the implementation of the "High-Value Agricultural Product Uplift Program" under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development for the remaining period of the fiscal year 2081/82.

Additionally, the Cabinet extended the deadline of the high-level committee for the improvement of the civil aviation sector by 45 days and granted the theoretical approval for the drafting of the Non-Resident Nepali Bill.

The Cabinet also approved the initiation of the procurement process for the reconstruction of the Kanti Children’s Hospital building as a special project.

Other decisions included the appointment of Raghuraj Kafle as the Executive Director of the Health Insurance Board and the appointment of Bhagirathi Bhattarai Gyawali as a member of the Electricity Regulatory Commission.
