Nepali peacekeeping units replaced in South Sudan and Iraq

Kathmandu, January 24 — The rotation of Nepali peacekeepers in South Sudan and Iraq has been completed, with one group returning and another group being deployed.

According to the Directorate of Military Public Relations and Information of Nepal Army, a team of 213 Nepali peacekeepers from the Chandiprasad Battalion, led by Major Manoj Karki, has left for South Sudan to replace the Aridaman Battalion deployed in the area.

After completing their tenure, 212 peacekeepers from the Aridaman Battalion, led by Major Khim Bahadur Adhikari, returned to Nepal.

Currently, 1,754 Nepali peacekeepers are stationed in the mission, including sector commanders, military observers, staff officers, two battalions, and a regiment.

Similarly, in Iraq, a team of 21 Nepali peacekeepers, led by Major Himalaya Thapa, has departed for the mission area to replace the previous team.

After completing their mission, the 21 peacekeepers have returned to Nepal.

Currently, 88 Nepali peacekeepers are stationed in the mission, as reported by the Directorate of Military Public Relations and Information of Nepal Army.
