Hearing on Lamichhane's remand to continue today

Kathmandu, January 24 — In the case involving fraud at the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, a hearing will continue today in the case against Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The debate has been ongoing since Wednesday in the bench of Judge Pralhad Kumar Yogi at the Rupandehi District Court.

On Thursday, the debate on the remand issue was concluded by the plaintiffs. However, two lawyers for the cooperative victim’s side still have to present their arguments.

Govinda Gyawali, the registrar of the Rupandehi District Court, stated that today, arguments will be made on behalf of the victim and Rabi. Lamichhane had been ordered to appear in court on Friday at 10:30 AM, with the family being held responsible for his attendance.

Today, initially, the lawyers representing the complainant, Senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari and Advocate RC Gautam, will present their arguments, after which Lamichhane’s lawyers will present theirs.

After the debate by Lamichhane’s side, led by Senior Advocate and former Chief Attorney Sushil Kumar Pant, government lawyers and the complainant’s lawyers will offer rebuttals.

Following this, the judge will issue an order regarding Lamichhane's remand, deciding whether he will remain in custody until the next hearing, be released on bail, or be released on a general date.
