Prachanda urges PM Oli to resign, cites governance failures

Kathmandu, January 17 — Six opposition parties have concluded that the ruling coalition has lost its moral ground in running the government.

In a joint meeting on Friday, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center), Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist), Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Nepal Socialist Party (NSP), and Rashtriya Janamorcha (RJM) issued a statement claiming that the coalition government has lost its ethical basis for governance.

The statement criticized the government for issuing a cooperative ordinance that has instead caused further suffering to the victims, rather than providing justice.

The opposition parties pointed out that the government's actions, driven by arrogance and ignored public dissent, have forced it to rely on ordinances instead of Parliament. The statement further added that the ruling coalition's moral legitimacy in running the government is now clearly in question.

Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' suggested that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should resign.

In a press conference after the meeting, Prachanda stated, "The Prime Minister has already stated that constitutional amendments will be done in 2030 at the earliest and with the reverse activities in good governance, the government has lost its moral foundation to remain in power. It is morally appropriate for the government to resign, but this should not be seen as an attempt by us to join the government."
