Anjala Koirala, wife of PAC Chair, appears in court

Biratnagar, January 8 — Anjala Koirala, wife of Rishikesh Pokharel, the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, has appeared before the Morang District Court in connection with the alleged embezzlement of NPR 220 million from the Umagauri Agricultural Cooperative in Dhanpalthan Rural Municipality-4, Morang.

According to sources from the Morang District Court, Koirala arrived as soon as the court opened this morning.

She has been scheduled for questioning in front of Judge Uddhav Prasad Bhattarai.

Following her statement, a hearing on her detention will take place, the court confirmed.

Koirala had gone into hiding after a warrant for her arrest was issued on December 18, following allegations of her involvement in the embezzlement of funds from the cooperative.

The court had also issued arrest warrants for 26 individuals, including cooperative chairperson Shambhu Rauniyar, Anjala Koirala, and Santalal Khawas, the ward chairman of Rangeli Municipality-2.

Khawas has already been released on bail of NPR 500,000.

Koirala is the latest to appear in court in relation to the case.
