Ex-Maoists resign from UML en masse, cite repeated humiliation
Kathmandu, January 6 — Nearly four dozen former Maoist leaders and activists from Kailali have left the CPN (UML), citing repeated humiliation and marginalization within the party.
They expressed their dissatisfaction, accusing the party of repeatedly insulting them, particularly for their past association with the Maoist movement.
The group formally submitted their resignation to the UML's Aattariya Municipal Chairman.
In their resignation letter, they stated that despite being members of CPN (UML), they continued to face repeated humiliation and political marginalization as former Maoists.
They further stated, “We have reached the conclusion that we can no longer stay in a party where the leadership indulges in factionalism, even against the central leadership.”
The leaders also criticized the failure of the unity between CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) that formed the Nepal Communist Party, which they said collapsed due to internal conflicts among top leaders. They argued that the unity that had initially inspired activists in the region could not sustain due to the rivalry between key party leaders.
The former Maoist leaders also emphasized the importance of the revolution and the People’s War, saying that no one can deny the significant role of the Maoist-led People's War in establishing the current republic, federalism, and inclusivity in Nepal.
