Kathmandu, January 1 — The Janamat Party, led by CK Raut, celebrated 'Dhoti Day' today.
Party leaders and activists gathered at Maitighar, wearing dhotis (a loincloth worn by men in Madhes region of Nepal), to observe the occasion.
They chanted slogans such as "Dhoti is our pride, it is the identity of Madhes," "Long live Dhoti Day," and "Racist slur 'Dhot Bhaiya' should not be used."
The decision to celebrate Dhoti Day was made during a central secretariat meeting of the party on Sunday. The party had also issued a circular directing all districts to celebrate the day with events reflecting the traditional essence of the dhoti.
The Janamat Party, emphasizing the significance of dhoti as a symbol of Madhesi culture, has been observing Dhoti Day in honor of this indigenous attire.
