Congress leaders propose replacing Oli's government: Barshaman Pun

Rukum East, December 27 — The Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Barshaman Pun, stated that leaders from the Nepali Congress and UML are starting to become frustrated with the current KP Sharma Oli-led government.

While speaking at the opening ceremony of a Maoist convention in Bhume Rural Municipality of Rukum East, he mentioned that public hatred toward the current government is rising, and as a result, leaders from the Congress have proposed discussions on alternatives.

He added, "Leaders from UML are coming forward with suggestions like 'BRI has been done, now let’s unite the communists,' trying to scare the Congress. How long will the Congress leaders carry the burden of UML's actions? Every now and then, there is a scandal involving Oli, so how long can they bear it?"

He emphasized that while discussions about alternatives are being proposed, the Maoist Centre does not wish to create a government that simply rotates between Congress and UML, driven by the interests of middlemen. "This is our commitment," he stated.

Pun, who is also a former Finance Minister, mentioned that the Maoists will not join the government until the 2027 elections.

"We are not going into the government now. We have stated that we will not join until 2027. We will raise people's issues both on the streets and in the parliament. We will work in the local levels where we are in government, with the alternative of a socialist republic. Yesterday, we were revolutionary forces. When Congress and UML unite, it may seem like we're the same, but we are not. We will work for a socialist republic," he said.

He also shared that the Maoist Centre is learning from the political changes in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and is moving forward cautiously. He cautioned that the country is still at risk of facing a situation similar to Bangladesh due to the current government’s actions.
