NPL: Sudur Paschim Royals beats Janakpur Bolts to enter final
Kirtipur, December 18 — Sudur Paschim Royals emerged victorious in the first qualifier of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) by defeating Janakpur Bolts by 8 wickets at the Kirtipur ground.
The match saw a dominant performance from Sudur Paschim Royals, who successfully chased down the target set by Janakpur Bolts, securing their spot in the upcoming finals.
Batting first after winning the toss, Janakpur Bolts struggled throughout their innings. They posted a total of 139/9 in 20 overs, with James Neesham being the top scorer with a quick-fire 45 runs off 23 balls, including three fours and three sixes. Despite his efforts, the rest of the team failed to provide the necessary support.
Key bowlers like Dipendra Singh Airee (3/29), Saif Zaib (2/20), and Scott Kuggeleijn (1/32) kept the pressure on, restricting Janakpur Bolts to a modest total.
In reply, Sudur Paschim Royals comfortably chased down the target of 140 runs, reaching 141/2 in 18.3 overs. The chase was anchored by Binod Bhandari, who played a steady knock of 58* off 55 balls, guiding his team towards victory.
Bhandari was well supported by Saif Zaib (32 off 21 balls), who provided a quick start with some blistering strokes, including three fours and two sixes.
The Royals' captain, Dipendra Singh Airee, remained not out at 20 from 16 balls, ensuring his team's passage to the final.
For Janakpur Bolts, Kishore Mahato was the pick of the bowlers with 1/16 from his 4 overs. Lalit Rajbanshi also contributed with a key wicket, finishing with 1/37.
Sudur Paschim Royals' clinical performance means they now move on to the finals, while Janakpur Bolts will play their next match against Karnali Yaks to reach the finals.
