Constitution will be reviewed after 10 years of implementation: PM Oli

Kathmandu, November 14 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the Constitution will undergo a review and evaluation after ten years of its implementation.

Speaking at the closing session of the Kantipur Conclave 2024, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that the core principles of democracy, republicanism, and federalism should not be compromised. He also made it clear that there should be no deviation from these principles.

He further explained that the current political equation in the country, which ensures stability, good governance, and development, had been made possible through collaboration between the major political parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, despite the lack of a clear majority for any single party.

Prime Minister Oli also reiterated that he would hand over power to Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in one year and eight months.

When asked about the detention of Rashtriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane in connection with an ongoing investigation, Oli clarified that Lamichhane’s arrest was based on the report of a parliamentary committee and emphasized that the court would determine his innocence or guilt.

On the issue of corruption, Oli firmly stated, "I do not engage in corruption nor will I allow it to happen. I am clear about this stance. If action needs to be taken against those who make mistakes, I will not hesitate, regardless of who they are."

He further added, "We have endured long periods in prison for democracy. It is inappropriate for individuals who have risen to prominence on the backs of the new generation to spread baseless accusations. Attempts to influence the judiciary through pressure and false propaganda are wrong."
