President Paudel leaving for Baku to attend COP29
Kathmandu, November 10 — President Ram Chandra Paudel is set to depart today for Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will focus on climate change issues.
At the invitation of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, President Paudel will lead a high-level Nepali delegation to participate in the conference.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Paudel is scheduled to address the 'World Leaders Climate Action Summit' on November 12, during the high-level session of the conference. On November 13, a separate high-level session will be conducted under President Paudel's leadership, where Nepal will draw the world's attention to its climate-related agendas.
A high-level meeting on the topic of 'Addressing Climate Change Impacts and Losses in Mountainous Regions' will also take place at the conference. Nepal is one of the most climate-impacted countries in the world.
During the meeting, Nepal will provide details about the damage caused by unusual weather events, such as floods and landslides, in areas like Melamchi, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Thame, and the Kathmandu Valley.
Nepal has been implementing a National Adaptation Program as a party to various climate agreements, with a goal to complete its climate adaptation actions by 2050. The conference will begin on November 11 and run until November 22.
President Paudel is scheduled to return to Nepal on November 15.
