Opposing groups clash in Phungling over Pathibhara cable car project
Kathmandu, November 8 — A clash erupted while attempting to begin the construction of a cable car from Phungling to Pathibhara Temple in Taplejung.
The conflict broke out at Tallo Phedi in Phungling Municipality, after which the police resorted to a baton charge. According to Koshi Province's DIG Chandra Kuber Khapung, several protesters were slightly injured in the clash, and the situation is now under control.
The dispute arose between two groups: one led by CPN-UML Taplejung Chairman Dambar Dhwaj Tumbahamphe and Phungling Mayor Amir Maden, who support the cable car project, and another group that opposes it.
The opposition began protesting when construction work was about to start. DIG Khapung confirmed that the two groups clashed, and the protesters threw stones at the site.
