RSP cries foul over Lamichhane's extended detention

Kathmandu, November 6 — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has claimed that there is a retaliatory attempt to extend the detention of its president, Rabi Lamichhane.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, acting spokesperson Manish Jha stated that although there is no legal basis or reason to keep Lamichhane in custody for further investigation, authorities are continuously extending his detention in a retaliatory manner.

The party emphasized that the legal provisions allow for investigation outside of custody, and RSP has called on all relevant parties to implement this alternative method of investigation.

The party also condemned the police intervention during a peaceful protest in Pokhara on Tuesday, claiming it was politically motivated.

While a parliamentary investigation committee cleared Lamichhane of involvement in cooperative fund mismanagement, the government has continued its investigation, now including allegations of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.
