Cabinet meeting today; party split ordinance expected

Kathmandu, October 21 — A meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled to take place on Monday evening. The meeting has been called for 5 PM at the Prime Minister's Office in Singhadurbar.

One minister has indicated that details about the meeting's agenda have not been disclosed. "The meeting is set for 5 PM, but we have not received any information regarding the agenda," the minister said.

However, there are discussions that today’s Cabinet meeting may introduce an ordinance related to party splits. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had previously attempted this, but was unable to succeed due to the ruling coalition partner, the Nepali Congress.

According to sources, Prime Minister Oli is preparing to introduce the ordinance to split the CPN (Unified Socialist) and the Janata Samajwadi Party led by Ashok Rai while the parliament is not in session. He has been pressuring Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to prepare for this.

On Sunday evening, it is reported that Oli invited Deuba to Baluwatar and urged him to support the introduction of the ordinance. Prime Minister Oli held discussions with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak at his official residence in Baluwatar.

Before the Cabinet meeting, opposition parties are meeting with the Prime Minister at Singhadurbar to submit a memorandum.
