Marwadi Sewa Samiti asserts tenancy rights over Gaushala Dharmashala (pictures)

Kathmandu, October 9 — The Marwadi Sewa Samiti Nepal (MSSN) has asserted its tenancy rights over the Gaushala Dharmashala. Members of the MSSN staged a protest on Wednesday, displaying various placards.

In a press release issued by the MSSN, it was noted that former Prime Minister Shree 3 Juddhashamsher JBR had invited members of the Marwadi community, including Ramkumar Marwadi, in the year 1997 B.S. to establish a reliable arrangement for the protection and care of cows and bulls, as well as for the accommodation of pilgrims visiting Pashupatinath.

The MSSN claims that the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) unilaterally terminated a 2060 B.S. agreement with the MSSN on 17th Shrawan 2080, an action they deem illegal.

Following this, a lawsuit was filed against the PADT's decision at the Kathmandu District Court, which ruled that the petitioner's claims were insufficient. The petitioning party is now preparing to appeal to a higher court.

In the meantime, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has requested that the Dharmashala be vacated starting Wednesday. The city had made an announcement via loudspeakers on Tuesday.

An agreement regarding the management of the Gaushala Dharmashala was reached between the Pashupati Area Development Trust and the Metropolitan City on Tuesday. The Metropolitan City is preparing to take over the operation of the Dharmashala in an organized manner after it has been vacated.
