Above-average rainfall predicted for October to December
Kathmandu, October 8 — The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has released its weather forecast for the period from October to December, 2024.
According to the forecast published by the department on Monday, it is expected that there will be above-average rainfall in the southeastern regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki provinces, and the eastern part of Lumbini province. In contrast, below-average rainfall is expected in the central and northern parts of Karnali province and the northern part of Sudurpashchim province, while the rest of the country may experience average rainfall.
The department's information officer and meteorologist, Bibhuti Pokharel, stated that maximum temperatures are likely to be above average across most areas of the country, and minimum temperatures are also expected to exceed the average nationwide.
Rainfall forecast
It has been indicated that above-average rainfall is likely in the southeastern parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki provinces, and the eastern part of Lumbini province.
In the northern part of Koshi province, the western part of Madhesh province, and the eastern and southern parts of Bagmati province, there is a 45 to 55 percent chance of above-average rainfall. Similarly, the southern areas of Koshi province, western Madhesh province, northwestern Bagmati province, and the southeastern part of Gandaki province have a 35 to 45 percent chance of above-average rainfall.
For the central and northern regions of Karnali province and the northern part of Sudurpashchim province, there is a 35 to 45 percent chance of below-average rainfall, while the rest of the country has a 35 to 45 percent chance of average rainfall.
Maximum and minimum temperatures
In addition, there is a likelihood that maximum temperatures will be above average in most areas of the country. The central and southern parts of Bagmati province, the western part of Madhesh province, the central and western parts of Gandaki province, the central and eastern parts of Lumbini province, and the eastern and northern parts of Karnali province have a 45 to 55 percent chance of experiencing above-average maximum temperatures.
In the central part of Koshi province, the eastern parts of Madhesh province, and the northern parts of Bagmati province, there is a 35 to 45 percent chance that maximum temperatures will be average, while the remaining areas are expected to have above-average maximum temperatures at a rate of 35 to 45 percent.
Minimum temperatures are likely to be above average nationwide. In Sudurpashchim, the western parts of Karnali province, and the western parts of Lumbini province, there is a 55 to 65 percent chance of above-average minimum temperatures.
Additionally, in the eastern regions of Karnali province, the central part of Lumbini province, the central and northern parts of Gandaki province, most parts of Bagmati province, the eastern parts of Madhesh province, and Koshi province, there is a 45 to 55 percent chance that minimum temperatures will exceed the average, while the remaining regions have a 35 to 45 percent chance of being above average, as reported by the department.
