Dr. Koirala calls for strengthening Nepali Congress to secure majority alone

Kathmandu, October 7 — Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala emphasized the need to strengthen the party to achieve a majority on its own. Speaking during a meeting with leaders of the Nepal Dalit Union at his office in Baluwatar on Monday morning, Dr. Koirala urged party leaders and activists to prepare for the upcoming elections, as the Congress plans to contest alone.

“We must work to make Congress a party capable of securing a majority on its own. Start working on this now. Don’t just enjoy the festivities of Dashain and Tihar, but also engage with the people in their joys and sorrows. Best wishes for Dashain,” Dr. Koirala stated.

He noted that the perception that only those with money can obtain election tickets within the Congress needs to be changed and suggested waiting for the 15th General Convention to address this issue. “After the 15th General Convention, this perception will change. We will establish the belief that anyone who is honest and capable will have the opportunity,” he said.

During the meeting, central committee member Mukta Bahadur Mahate of the Dalit Union shared that they discussed upcoming activities and the significant role of the Dalit community in politics. Present at the meeting were Deputy General Secretary Jiban Pariyar, central committee members Sarita Prasai, Prakash Snehi Rasaili, Sanjay Gautam, and Sita Mijar, among others.
