Prakashman Singh Raut set to take oath today as new CJ
Kathmandu, October 6 — Prakashman Singh Raut is taking the oath today (Sunday) as the 32nd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The oath-taking ceremony is being held at the President's Office at 1:30 PM.
According to sources from Shital Niwas, the previous Chief Justice, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, took leave from October 6, prompting Raut's appointment today.
Following the oath, the Supreme Court administration has begun the transition of duties. Senior-most Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla will welcome the new Chief Justice Raut. The Constitutional Council recommended Raut's appointment as Chief Justice on August 16.
He received unanimous approval during the parliamentary hearing on October 3. Raut will lead the judiciary until April 30, 2026. The Supreme Court and courts across the country have been on Dashain vacation since the day of Ghatasthapana.
However, the Supreme Court and various courts remain open for habeas corpus hearings, with schedules arranged for judges and staff.
