In pictures: BP Highway in desolation
Kavre, October 1 — Continuous rainfall has left the BP Highway deserted and closed due to flooding and landslides. After descending from Namobuddha, all roads appear disordered. The BP Highway has suffered significant damage from landslides.
Settlements near the riverbanks have been swept away by the floods. Landslides have occurred at various points from Kavre Bhanjyang to Bhakundebesi, with trees fallen in several areas. On Monday, with the help of bulldozers, the road was cleared of debris and rocks, allowing access to Bhakundebesi.
However, there are cracks on many parts of the road, and there is a risk of further collapses at landslide sites. Specifically, about 200 meters of the road has been affected by landslides from Choki Danda below Bhakundebesi.
People are taking risks to travel along alternative routes. Many houses around the Roshi River have been washed away by the floods. Locals report a shortage of food in the surrounding areas following the blockage of the BP Highway, and they note that government relief has been inadequate.
