SC orders written response on FNJ election delays

Kathmandu, September 23 — The Supreme Court has ordered a written response regarding the inability to hold the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) elections on the scheduled date. During the initial hearing of a writ petition filed on Sunday, the court requested written responses from all parties involved, while rejecting the request for an interim order.

Justice Kumar Regmi presided over the single bench, directing that written replies be sought from all defendants. The writ petition, filed by Dhruba Prasad Chaulagain, named the FNJ as a respondent.

The petition also sought an interim order to conduct elections within six months. Following the current committee's failure to hold elections on the designated date, the writ requested that elections be conducted through alternative means to resolve the impasse.

The writ also requested that a national assembly, including provincial and district presidents, be organized to make necessary decisions regarding the actions taken by the committee, with a deadline to hold elections within six months.

Additionally, it demanded that provisions be made for older members who participated in the previous annual general meeting to take part in the elections, asking for a mandamus order to be issued against the defendants.
