Maoist Center's province-level consultation meeting concludes today
Kathmandu, September 22 — The provincial consultation committee meeting of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), which began in the first week of Bhadra (mid-August), will conclude on Sunday, September 22. The party's standing committee meeting, which wrapped up on August 15, had decided to hold a joint meeting of the central members and provincial officials before convening the central committee meeting.
According to the decisions made in the standing committee meeting, sessions have already been held for various committees including those focusing on geography’s seven provinces, the Kathmandu Valley, provincial coordination, and the Asia, Europe, and America committees.
Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota informed that the final day will involve a joint meeting of central committee members working in SAARC nations and office-bearers. After the meeting, officials will convene to prepare for the central committee meeting as needed. According to Sapkota, the central committee meeting is expected to be held shortly after Dashain (late October).
Based on suggestions from the office-bearers, standing committee, and provincial consultation committee meetings, the central committee plans to introduce a comprehensive strategy. Sapkota clarified that there is a consensus on the need for all leftist parties to unite under the leadership of Chairman Prachanda.
“The review is going well. There’s ongoing discussion of ideas, and we’re also advancing the discourse on socialist ideology. The collective leadership must rally around Prachanda’s leadership based on centralized expression. It’s essential to achieve broad leftist unity to face all challenges. Additionally, there’s a strong focus on reorganizing the communist party. Everyone agrees that new ideas must be synthesized to tackle emerging challenges,” he stated.
During the standing committee meeting, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) presented a document on “Current Circumstances and New Tasks for Party Transformation.” Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma also submitted a separate 14-page document concerning party restructuring and leadership options. The consultation committee meeting discussed both Sharma's document and the decisions made by the standing committee. Prachanda committed to addressing the questions raised across all provinces and presenting a political document at the central committee meeting that encompasses everyone's views.
