Kamalamai Temple: A major religious and tourist destination (photos)
Sindhuli, September 21 — One of the prominent religious and tourist sites in Sindhuli district is the Kamalamai Temple, located about 8 kilometers from the Sindhuli bazaar area.
Also known as Maithan, the Kamalamai Temple is situated at the confluence of the Gaumati and Kamala rivers, along the B.P. Highway. Due to its easy accessibility and significant historical and religious prestige, the temple attracts a large number of devotees.
There are limited verified accounts regarding the origins of the Kamalamai Temple, but its religious significance is exceedingly high. Many devotees believe that a pure heart will bring fulfillment when visiting the Kamalamai Goddess, leading to a growing number of visitors.
Historical and religious importance can be gleaned from inscriptions on offerings made by various rulers of the Makwanpur Kingdom and administrative figures throughout history.
In the month of Magh in the year 1886, the then-Kaji Bhimsen Thapa visited the temple with his wife, Bhakta Kumari, to offer a silver crown, which bears his engraved initials.
The temple is usually crowded with visitors, particularly during the month of Magh, when the ritual of offering Paathi (a form of worship) is widespread. A large fair is held during Maghe Sankranti, drawing pilgrims from both Nepal and India.
