Hearing scheduled for former IGP Rana's writ in Supreme Court

Kathmandu, September 10 — A hearing has been scheduled for Friday regarding the writ petition filed by former Inspector General of Nepal Police, Om Bikram Rana, in the Supreme Court. The petition will be heard by a joint bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Sharanga Subedi.

On August 2, former Inspector General Rana filed the writ in the Supreme Court, challenging the suspension of his retirement benefits after being found guilty in the Sudan embezzlement case.

The writ had its initial hearing on the same day in Justice Binod Sharma's bench, who ordered the parties involved to be summoned for discussion regarding a show-cause order and interim orders.

Both the Special Court and the Supreme Court deemed Rana and others involved as corrupt, citing irregularities in a contract related to the supply of equipment for a peace mission in Sudan.

A joint bench of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki and then Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha upheld the Special Court's decision, sentencing Rana and the others to two years in prison while reducing the amount of the fine.

After the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority wrote to the Pension Management Office to withhold his pension, Rana's pension was suspended. He has since filed a writ in the Supreme Court against this decision.
