Former Speaker Sapkota defends People's War legacy
Kathmandu, September 14 — CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice Chair and former Speaker Agni Sapkota has expressed his discontent with the CPN-UML for using the term "violence" to discredit the People's War in Parliament.
Speaking at the 8th district assembly of the Dhadhing-Kathmandu Coordination Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday, Sapkota emphasized that today's changes are the result of the sacrifices of thousands of people and urged resistance against any attempts to undermine this legacy.
Sapkota said, “Those who are now President, Prime Minister, and Ministers owe their positions to the People's War. Without the People's War, they would still be languishing in prison. If you have a pen in your hand, or access to a computer or mobile, use it to resist those who insult the People's War. Remember the puppets who once paraded around Ratnapark with a few people. The end of 250 years of monarchy and the subsequent changes were made possible by the Maoist People's War.”
He acknowledged that although they aimed for further changes, the international, national, and political circumstances of the time led to agreements and compromises that shaped the current system. He reiterated the party's commitment to the path of democratic revolution.
