Constitutional Council meeting ends inconclusively

Kathmandu, September 13 — The meeting of the Constitutional Council, convened to recommend candidates for vacant constitutional positions along with the Chief Justice’s recommendations, ended without a decision.

The Council meeting, held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, concluded without making any decisions.

During the Constitutional Council meeting, discussions were held on the names of eight senior judges for the Chief Justice recommendation, according to Deputy Speaker Indira Rana. She mentioned that discussions were particularly focused on Judge Prakashman Singh, who is at the top of the list.

"There is almost consensus on his name. However, it was advised not to make a hasty decision today. The final decision will be made in another meeting to be held in two days," she said.

She added that since adequate study is needed before making recommendations to the constitutional body, the meeting ended without a conclusion on Friday. It was agreed that the next meeting will be held on 31st Bhadra.
