Resolution to impeach Deputy Speaker Rana scheduled for filing

Kathmandu, September 11 — Preparations are underway to file a resolution seeking the removal of Indira Rana, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The motion will be submitted to the federal parliament secretariat with the signatures of one-fourth of the Congress and UML MPs in the House of Representatives.

Janamat Party MP Abdul Khan informed Ratopati the impeachment motion is being registered today.

Khan said, "The motion to remove the Deputy Speaker will be filed today. After that, there will be a seven-day discussion on it. The motion will be included in the work list between September 15th and 16th. The matter will then be debated in parliament, where the Deputy Speaker will have the opportunity to respond. Following this, the issue will be presented for a decision by the Speaker, and a vote will be held."

The ruling party is moving to remove Deputy Speaker Rana due to a letter she wrote last year to the American Embassy, requesting that they expedite visa interviews for certain individuals attending an event in the United States.

According to sub-article 6 (c) of Article 91 of the Constitution, the position of speaker or deputy speaker of the HoR shall fall vacant if a resolution is adopted by a majority of two-thirds of the total number of the then members of the HoR that his or her conduct is not compatible with his or her office.

One-fourth of the members of the HoR can file an impeachment motion.
