Nepali Congress Central Committee in uproar over 'Hindu Nation'

Kathmandu, September 1 — A heated debate occurred at the Nepali Congress Central Committee meeting on Sunday regarding the inclusion of signatures collected for declaring Nepal a ‘Hindu Nation’ during the Mahasamiti meeting in the Central Committee's decision.

Several central committee members demanded that the issue of establishing a Hindu state be incorporated into the meeting's decision.

Central committee member Shankar Bhandari stressed that their concerns must be addressed in the decision, or a formal note of dissent would be filed. Bhandari received support from other central members, including Devendraraj Kandel and Sita Devkota.

On the other hand, members such as Bimalendra Nidhi and Krishna Kishore Ghimire opposed this request, with Nidhi noting the absence of an official report from the Mahasamiti on the matter.

After the discussions, Deuba thanked the members for their contributions and concluded the meeting.
