Prachanda highlights role of cultural warriors

Kathmandu, August 27 — CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" has emphasized the significant historical role of cultural warriors in inspiring political and social change.

Speaking at a commemoration and honors event organized by the JB Tuhure Foundation on the third memorial day of singer JB Tuhure, Prachanda noted that music and performances can often be more effective in raising awareness than discussions of philosophy and politics.

Prachanda remarked that cultural warriors dedicate their lives to enlightening the public and continue to influence society even after their deaths. He quoted poet Parijat, saying that martyrs live on through the remembrance and reverence of future generations.

The JB Tuhure Foundation awarded the JB Tuhure Honor 2024, a prize of one lakh rupees, to the late folk singer Khushiram Pakhrin in recognition of his contributions.

At the event held at the JB Tuhure Foundation's meeting hall, Prachanda expressed his pride and joy at honoring cultural figures like Pakhrin and Tuhure. He praised the opportunity to recognize Pakhrin posthumously on the memorial day of JB Tuhure, highlighting the significance of the venue built in memory of the great martyr Krishna Sen “Ichchhuk”.

Prachanda acknowledged that cultural warriors like Sen, Tuhure, and Pakhrin played crucial roles in awakening the working class and dismantling feudalism. He expressed satisfaction that their contributions were being honored and institutionalized, emphasizing the importance of respecting their role in societal transformation.

The program, chaired by Nirvika Tuhure of the JB Tuhure Foundation, featured speeches from CPN UML Vice Chairman Guru Baral, central member of the CPN Maoist Center Purna Bahadur Gharti, and other notable figures. The event also included performances by popular artists in tribute to the cultural warriors, with Bhim Kumakhi, Chairperson of the People’s Cultural Federation, serving as the program’s host.
