Rohit Sharma's century in vain as CSK outshine MI in IPL 2024 clash at Wankhede

KATHMANDU: In a thrilling encounter in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched a victory by 20 runs against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

CSK's dominant batting display saw them post a formidable total of 206 runs after MI won the toss and opted to bowl first.

The match witnessed a change in CSK's opening combination as Ajinkya Rahane partnered with Rachin Ravindra instead of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Although Rahane fell early in the second over, Gaikwad showcased his explosive batting prowess, smashing a blistering 69 off just 40 balls, including five boundaries and five sixes.

Rachin Ravindra showed promising form before being dismissed, paving the way for Shivam Dube to join Gaikwad at the crease.

The duo forged a crucial 90-run partnership in just 45 deliveries, with Dube contributing a vital 66 not out off 38 balls, featuring 14 boundaries.

CSK's innings gained momentum rapidly, particularly between the 10th and 15th overs, during which they amassed 87 runs.

Romario Shepherd bore the brunt of CSK's onslaught, conceding 22 runs in an over, with Dube dispatching two sixes.

MI managed to make a brief recovery, restricting CSK's scoring rate towards the latter stages of the innings.

However, a late flourish from MS Dhoni, who struck three consecutive sixes in the final over, propelled CSK past the 200-run mark.

In response, MI got off to a strong start courtesy of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who put on a 70-run partnership in just 43 balls.

Despite Rohit's impressive century, MI faltered in the face of CSK's disciplined bowling, ultimately falling short of the target.

Matheesha Pathirana emerged as the standout bowler for CSK, claiming four wickets for 28 runs and playing a pivotal role in dismantling MI's batting lineup.

Despite Rohit's valiant effort, CSK's comprehensive performance secured them a well-deserved victory in what was hailed as one of the most celebrated matches of the IPL 2024 season.
