Chir installation marks commencement of Holi Festival (In Pictures)

KATHMANDU: Basantapur, the heart of Kathmandu, radiated with vibrant colors as the ceremonial wooden pole, known as 'Chir', was erected at the Hanuman Dhoka Palace premises, signaling the beginning of the joyous Holi Festival.

The auspicious installation of the Chir took place at 7:47 AM on Sunday morning, symbolizing the start of the festive celebrations.

As Basantapur came alive with the traditional Chir ceremony, revelers immersed themselves in the spirit of Holi, smearing each other with vivid colors and spreading joy and laughter.

This year, the Phagu Festival will be celebrated in the hilly regions on March 24 and in the Tarai (southern plains) on March 25.
