Trekking permits now obtainable online

KATHMANDU: Trekking enthusiasts rejoice as Nepal's Department of Immigration introduces an innovative online system for trekking route permits.

No more paperwork hassle; now, adventurers can secure permits for restricted zones from the comfort of their homes.

Previously, acquiring permits meant navigating bureaucratic procedures in person. But with the recent shift to online issuance, exploring hidden gems like upper Mustang, upper Dolpa, and the mesmerizing Manaslu region is now just a few clicks away.

Binod Sapkota, General Secretary of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), lauded this digital leap, noting its potential to boost tourism in Nepal's remote regions.

According to TAAN President Neelhari Bastola, the ease of obtaining permits online will attract more travelers, amplifying Nepal's allure as a premier trekking destination.

Acting Director General of the Department of Immigration, Krishna Bahadur Katwal, assured that the new system streamlines the process, allowing adventurers to secure permits effortlessly via QR payments from trekking companies or personal accounts.
