Culmination of National Assembly Election: Voting closes across all Provinces, eyes on evening results
KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) election, an extensive electoral exercise spanning all seven provinces, gracefully reached its conclusion on Thursday.
The day-long voting, which kickstarted at 9 AM for the election of 19 vacant seats since March 4, seamlessly wrapped up at 3 PM as per the official schedule provided by the Election Commission.
A dynamic field of 51 candidates, representing eight diverse political parties, contended in this democratic spectacle.
The electorate included members of provincial assemblies, mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons of local levels.
Intriguingly, Koshi Province witnessed a few notable abstentions, including the Mayor of Dharan sub-metropolitan city, Jay Prakash Gachhadhar - Chairperson of Gramthan Rural Municipality, and the suspended Jay Narayan Shah of Jhapa Rural Municipality.
Meanwhile, Madhesh Province reported a lone voter omission, while Bagmati Province tallied five such instances.
Gandaki Province noted the absence of Mayor Dev Kumar Nepali of Dhorpatan Municipality, and two voters opted out in Lumbini Province.
In stark contrast, Karnali Province proudly recorded full voter participation. Sudur Paschim Province saw an engaged electorate, with 226 votes cast.
