PM Dahal pledges consistent distribution of Melamchi drinking water in the capital
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, commonly known as 'Prachanda,' expressed the Nepali government's dedication to providing safe and sustainable drinking water services to the burgeoning population of the Kathmandu Valley.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Melamchi drinking water diversion and redistribution at Singhadurbar this morning, PM Dahal highlighted the forthcoming second phase of Yangri and Larke rivers diversion, underscoring a specific action plan for the sustainable provision of drinking water.
PM Dahal emphasized the urgency of addressing the escalating demand for drinking water in Kathmandu due to the city's population growth.
He stated, "The government is dedicated to providing safe and sustainable drinking water services." Additionally, he mentioned that the construction of the head box of the Melamchi drinking water project is nearing completion, and a concrete action plan will be implemented to advance the second phase of Yangri and Larke rivers diversion.
Recognizing the importance of a long-term solution, PM Dahal assured a comprehensive study and concrete action plan for the reconstruction of the project. He directed relevant authorities to ensure the operation of existing alternative systems throughout the year.
The government's commitment to resolving the drinking water issue aligns with its efforts to meet the rising demands of the Kathmandu populace, signaling a positive step toward sustainable water management.
