Prime Minister Dahal officially launches Melamchi drinking water redistribution

KATHMANDU: After a hiatus of seven months due to a devastating landslide and flash flood in the Melamchi River, the redistribution of Melamchi drinking water has officially resumed on Monday following the successful reconstruction of the project. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the redistribution ceremony at Singha Durbar, symbolically opening the tap to mark the occasion.

The distribution process is set to begin gradually, starting from Anamnagar, Minbhawan, Mahankal Chaur, Regani, Bhaktapur, Khumaltar, Balaju, and Bansbari areas, as outlined by Suresh Acharya, the secretary at the Ministry of Drinking Water. The reconstructed project is now capable of daily supplying 17 crores liters of drinking water to meet the demands of the capital.

This marks a crucial milestone in the Melamchi Drinking Water Project's journey, as it recommences its operations after a prolonged suspension caused by natural disasters. The inauguration by Prime Minister Dahal signifies a step towards normalcy and the restoration of a vital resource for the residents of Kathmandu.
