Nemwang's death was unexpected: UML General Secretary Pokharel

KATHMANDU, Sep 16: CPN UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel remarked that Subash Chandra Nemwang's death was unexpected.

Former Constituent Assembly Chairman and UML Vice Chairman Nemwang was a member of the House of Representatives elected from Ilam constituency no 2. He passed away on September 12 at the age of 71.

In a condolence assembly organized at the party central office, Chaysal in Lalitpur today, General Secretary Pokharel shared that he could not believe the news of Nemwang's demise.

"The goodwill towards leader Nemwang and sympathy shown to him after his demise showed that he had lived a meaningful life," said Pokharel observed, adding that the late leader had significantly contributed to the promulgation of the constitution through the constituent assembly. 

Pokharel credited Nemwang for the party's success in uniting the nation. He also reminisced about the unforgettable role Nemwang played in the promulgation and implementation of the constitution after the then CPN (Maoist) joined the peace process. According to Pokharel, Nemwang was the person who had the most thorough understating of the intricacies and essence of parliamentary affairs.

He argued that if we are to respect Nemwang, we should understand his sentiments. 

UML's standing committee member Lal Babu Pandit, Dr. Bijay Subba among other attendants of the condolence assembly expressed late Nemwang's contributions could not be forgotten.
