Chalaune files case in Supreme Court against government's decision
KATHMANDU, June 21: Tribhuwan University's Associate Professor Prem Chalaune has filed a writ petition against the government's decision to withdraw the case against the activists of the Nepal Students Union (NSU). The writ filed in the Supreme Court has been scheduled for a hearing tomorrow on Thursday.
On October 6, 2020, the workers of the Nepal Students Association, including TU Nepal Students Association Chairman Hari Acharya, attacked the Associate Professor of Sociology, Chalaune. There was a case against 5 people including Acharya in the District Court Kathmandu. The final hearing of the case was scheduled for Tuesday.
However, even before that, the government decided to withdraw the case against the workers of the Nepal Students Association. Following the government's decision, Chalaune decided to go on a hunger strike. Associate Prof Chalaune went on a hunger strike in front of the Tribhuwan University VC Office claiming that injustice had been done to him.
In the writ, Chalaune described the government's decision as illegal and unconstitutional and demanded the government to cancel its decision.
