Lawsuit against 'Adipurush' in Delhi Court

NEW DEHLI, June 17: A lawsuit has been filed against the Bollywood movie 'Adipurush' which has been in controversy since its release. A writ petition was filed against the film by Hindu Sena for tampering with the story and dialogues of the Hindu epic Ramayana in the film. The Hindu Sena filed a writ in the Dehli Court demanding a ban on the screening of the film.

Hindu Sena’s National Chairman Vishnu Gupta informed that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed against 'Adipurush' in Dehli High Court. The PIL was filed in accordance with Article 226 of the Constitution of India which states that religious leaders, characters and people cannot be misrepresented in any media.

In the writ, the film was accused of misrepresenting religious characters and the story of Maharishi Valmiki’s “Ramayana”. According to Gupta, the controversial film has added inaccurate scenes such as Ram being characterized like Jesus, Rawan being shown sitting in a circle of pythons in a golden castle; but also the dialogues of Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Rawan were like the dialogues of rappers.

The film 'Adipurush' based on the Hindu epic Ramayana was directed by Om Raut. Actor Prabhas starred as 'Lord Ram', actress Kriti Senan as 'Sita' and actor Sunny Singh as 'Lakshman' in the film. Saif Ali Khan played the role of the antagonist 'Rawan'.

After the backlash, the producer had to change many scenes in the film. The film has gotten mixed reactions from its audiences after its release.

Even in Nepal, the Kathmandu Metropolitan had banned the screening of the film because of the dialogue "Janaki is a daughter of India" in the film. The film was finally screened in Nepal after the Censor Board removed the dialogue.
