Drone attack in Syria kills four, eight injured

BEIRUT, March 9: According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, four people were killed and eight were injured in a drone attack by Iran-backed factions in government-controlled eastern Syria on Wednesday.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, the drone attack that took place near the weapons factory of the Iran-backed group in the eastern city of Deir Ezzor is believed to have targeted the residences of top Iranian commanders and senior officials of the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.

Pro-Iranian factions allied with the Syrian government, including Hezbollah, are heavily deployed in the south and west of the Euphrates River, which runs through Deir Ezzor province.

According to state media, some casualties occurred when a landmine planted by terrorists exploded near Deir Ezzor, but the details regarding the incident have not been received. On January 30, 11 people were killed in a drone attack in the same area.

Syria has been gripped in conflict after the brutal suppression of peaceful protests rendering millions homeless and displaced.
